This is the Kuching mosque, completed in 1968. Until the new mosque was built in Petra Jaya, the Kuching Mosque was also the official Sarawak State Mosque. It is located on the site of an earlier wooden mosque built in 1852.
The grounds are surrounded by a Muslim cemetery. The domed ceiling of the interior of the mosque is worth a look. It has recently been repainted in totally different colours, giving the mosque an entirely new look. Good views of the mosque can be seen from the pedestrian bridge connecting to the mosque.
As you walk towards the western end of Kuching centre, you won’t be able to miss the imposing mosque with its gilded cupolas that rise above the city’s skyline.
